Priests, pastors hold
friendly table tennis

Priests and pastors in Bacolod competed in a friendly table tennis competition organized by Leonito Lopue of Lopue’s Table Tennis Association at the LOPTTA Center, June 12 in Bacolod City.

The team of pastors Jude Pimentel, Dino Sagadal and Rayman Villanueva with table tennis expert George Jimenez, beat the group of Frs. Nick Melicor, Jesmar Manato, Raymon Asoy, and Dr. Carlitos Orola, 8-6, to win the first phase of the competition.

Lopue said the tournament, called “Friendship and Unity Games” employed the race to 8 format with the members from both teams playing in singles and double matches.

MANILA – Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III yesterday lauded the Philippine chess team for winning 95 medals to finish second behind Vietnam in the recent 15th ASEAN Plus Age-Group Chess Championships in Sands Cotai Central, Macau.

Of the record medal haul, the Philippines won 35 gold medals and bagged 43 silver and 17 bronze medals, surpassing the 24-28-13 output in last year’s edition in Thailand.

“Filipinos stand as one of the chess powers in Asia. We have consistently produced talents that have done the nation proud in regional tournaments,” Pimentel said in a press statement.

Spurs on brink of 5th NBA title

San Antonio followed up one of the greatest offensive halves in league history yesterday with a balanced attack in game four to blow out Miami and take a stranglehold on the NBA finals.

Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker combined for 39 points and all 13 players got involved in the scoring as the top seeded Spurs rolled over the Heat 107-86 to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

"They smashed us," said Heat star and two-time reigning finals MVP LeBron James. "They are a high-oiled machine and they move the ball extremely well."
