Huminova Tigers, needing a win to stay in contention for the championship, eliminated Sweet Crystal, 93-86, Friday night to keep their hopes alive for a seat in the quarterfinals of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at the Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

Sweet Crystal fought hard and took the lead at halftime, 47-31, with Ralph Richard Tan and Livingstone Ang scoring 13 points each but the Tigers stayed within striking distance as Leonard Kilayko and Brian Tan combined for 25 points.

Kilayko continued to sizzle in the third quarter and shot nine points as the Tigers caught up with Sweet Crystal and wrest the lead at 69-67.

Nico Lopingco and Jubert Katalbas had 14 points between them in the third quarter to keep the fight for Sweet Crsytal but RB Chua, who only played in the fourth quarter, scored 10 points for Huminova Tigers to seal the victory.

Kilayko tallied 28 points and Brian Tan finished with 19 points, while Glin Ortaliz delivered 17 and Ong hit 10 points for the Tigers.

Ang topscored for Sweet Crystal with 19 points, Ralph Richard Tan delivered 18 markerts, Lopingco hit 15, while Katalbas and Yu shot 14 points each.

In the second game, Friday, JSY Transport registered their fifth win in seven games at the expense of Royal Star Trading, who bowed out of the tournament with one win and six losses.

Trying to fend off elimination, Royal Star matched JSY Transport’s 41-point output in the first half with Eugene Tsai scoring 20 points and Johann Villanueva adding 11 markers.

But JSY stepped on the gas in the second half and zoomed to a 66-48 lead to deliver the knockout blow on Royal Star and eliminate the latter from contention.

Chu led JSY Transport with 21 points, Alegario added 16, Teruel , Timothy Uy and Ardian Ong had 13 points each and Joseph Tiu made 10 points.

Tsai scored a game-high 27 points in a losing effort for Royal Star while Villanueva tallied 19 points.*NAB
