Army finds marijuana plantation

Army soldiers and paramilitary troopers, on visibility patrol, discovered a marijuana plantation in Bago City, Negros Occidental, Friday.

A police team that responded to information relayed to them by 12th Infantry Battalion, confirmed the existence of the marijuana plantation in Purok Abaca, Sitio Pataan, Brgy. Mailum, Bago City.

However, Supt. Arnel Arpon, Bago City police chief, said its cultivator is nowhere to be found.

Arpon said they uprooted 50 fully-grown marijuana plants, estimated at about five and six feet tall, and 110 marijuana seedlings. They also recovered at the site about three-fourths of a kilo of dried marijuana leaves and seeds.

He said their initial investigations showed that the marijuana, believed to have been packed in the area by the cultivator, had students in Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City, and neighboring areas among his clients.

Arpon said the uprooted marijuana plants will be turned over to the PNP Crime Laboratory.*
