Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. will lead government officials today in the distribution of additional cash assistance for shelter rehabilitation from the Concern Worldwide for victims of super typhoon Yolanda in northern Negros, a press release from the Capitol said.
Concern Worldwide, an Irish humanitarian organization that committed to help more than 11,000 Negrense families, whose houses were destroyed by the strongest typhoon ever to hit the country in November last year, is providing P26,906,421 through a funding agreement it entered into with the Provincial Government, the press release said.
Of the total commitment of Concern Worldwide, P3,296,421 is intended to the rehabilitation of the rock causeway/walkway in the coastal barangay of Molocaboc in Sagay City, Provincial Planning and Development Office head Marlin Pellejo-Sanogal, concurrent secretariat chair of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, said.
The balance of P23,610,000 is the direct assistance, at P3,000 each, for the 11,805 households that lost their homes to Yolanda, Liane Garcia, provincial social welfare development officer, said in the press release.
Expected to attend for Concern Worldwide is its current country director Rosaleen Dew, and Roberta Cappieri.
Sanogal said the processing of support to Negros Occidental from Concern Worldwide was started by the Irish NGO during the term of Philip Miller as country director late last year, the press release said.
The first tranche set for release this week amounts to P17,826,000 for the 8,913 households in Manapla, Cadiz City and Sagay City, Garcia said.
She also said that the balance of P5,784,00 will be included in the second tranche to cover Yolanda survivors from other local government units including Silay City, Victorias City, E.B. Magalona, Kabankalan City, Toboso, Escalante City and Calatrava, among others, the press release said.
Garcia said the original list of Yolanda beneficiaries from the province covered 11,871 families, but was revised to 11,805 after monitoring and validation process.
The Concern Worldwide assistance is in support to the shelter rehabilitation funding earlier released by the Provincial Government at P2,000 per household, the PSWDO head, said, the press release added.*
