The “Marching for Peace, Serving the Countryside” activity to be spearheaded by the Provincial Peace Integration and Development Unit (Pro-PIDU), is being replicated in the 5th district of Negros Occidental.
Col. Jon Aying, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, said yesterday that about 800 military and police personnel will participate in the march, that aims to show the people that they are the legitimate force of the government, ready anytime to protect them.
Aying also said that the combined Army and police visibility and civilian humanitarian effort is a one-stop-shop activity that will cater to the immediate needs of the people and work on long-term needs of depressed communities in northern Negros, in tandem with multi-stakeholders.
The foot march, participated in by infantry units of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and 6th Regional Public Safety Battalion, will kick off today in Brgy. Cabacungan, La Castellana, and converge in Brgy. Quinten Remo,Moises Padilla on Tuesday, where various civic action activities are being lined up.
The Pro-PIDU is now working on the second winning the peace campaign in the first district of Negros Occidental, which has a “Serving the Countryside, Working with the People” approach.
It was held for the populace of Escalante City, Toboso and Calatrava hinterland barangays, classified as strongholds of the New People’s Army in northern Negros.
The 11-day activity will have five convergence activities in Brgy. Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla on June 17, Brgy. San Agustin in Isabela on June 19, Brgy. Biao in Binalbagan on June 21, Brgy. Carabalan in Himamaylan City on June 23 and Brgy. Buenavista, also in Himamaylan City (June 26).
A peace rally to cap the activity will be held at 6 p.m. of June 26 at the Himamaylan City public plaza.*GPB
