Girl from Bacolod a
three-chair turner

BY SHIELA GELERA

A 13-year-old girl from Bacolod City managed to get the three judges to turn their chairs during the blind auditions of “The Voice Kids”, aired over ABS-CBN last night, ensuring her a slot in the next round of the nationally televised singing tilt.

Khen Lobaton, 13, of Brgy. Mansilingan in Bacolod City, chose Sarah Geronimo, who was the last to turn, to be her coach, over Lea Salonga and Bamboo Manalac.

Salonga tried to convince Lobaton to join her team pointing out that she, too, has roots in Negros Occidental with her mother Ligaya Alcantara Imutan coming from the province, and that she was the coach of last season’s The Voice champion, Mitoy Yonting.

But Lobaton chose Geronimo to be her coach because of actor John Lloyd Cruz whom she has a crush. Geronimo and Cruz have starred together in box office hit movies.

Lobaton, who sang Empire State of Mind, is the third Negrense to make it through the blind auditions of The Voice Kids.

Meanwhile, the keyword “Khen” also made it to the trending topics at social networking sites, Twitter and Facebook.*SGG
