How can I tell?

Please advise me on my problem.

I am the eldest in our family and my parents are in dire need of money for their medicines. I asked my rich friend, Ludy, to help me find a job at her father’s office. She recommended me to her father, Mr. G, who agreed to hire me as a computer programmer.

I was so grateful as I could now help my parents with their medicines. Ludy and her family have been very good to me. Her mother always welcomed me warmly into their home and even often invited me to their weekend outing at their beautiful beach resort. I was treated like a member of their family.

After working at Mr. G’s office for a year, the company needed another girl to handle the heavy correspondence and I recommended Sonia, a neighbor of mine, who was desperate for work. Mr. G hired her on the spot as she is pretty and has very good communication skills. After a few months, I noticed that Sonia was always looking smart in her new clothes, with matching bags and shoes. She was always asked to attend business conferences with Mr. G.

One time, I walked into Mr. G’s office and I was shocked to see him and Sonia kissing! I immediately slipped out the door, hoping they didn’t see me. I also found out that Sonia was now living in a nice apartment paid for by Mr. G. I am tempted to tell Ludy about this, but I am afraid it might cause big trouble in their family.

The awful thing is I was the one who recommended Sonia for the job. I know I would lose my job if Mr. G finds out I was the one who reported them. What should I do?

Dear Confused,

Talk to your friend Sonia and make her realize the folly of what she is doing. She is young and pretty, with excellent communication skills. She can easily find a job elsewhere. If she sticks to Mr. G, she will ruin her future and maybe even be involved in a big scandal if his wife confronts her.

Also, try to keep your eyes open for an opening with other companies. If this thing blows up, you might be one of the collateral damage since you brought Sonia into the company.
