The Negros Occidental provincial veterinarian's office has fielded paravets in the towns and cities of Negros Occidental to assist farmers in caring for their farm animals during the summer months.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena yesterday said again that the provincial government has allocated P7.5 million for mitigation efforts this summer, P4.2 million of which will go to the paravet monitoring activities.
Decena advised farmers to be technically equipped for climate change, noting the extreme hot and cold weather now being experienced.
Farmers should avail of the services of paravets, and town and city veterinarians provided by the government, to prevent animal deaths, he said.
The World Bank allocation of P800 million, the bulk of which will go to Negros Occidental, will also boost assistance to farmers propagating animals in the province, he added.
He also cited allocation by the provincial government allocation of P3.5 million for the purchase of layers to boost the egg supply and to multiply the number of free range chickens in the province.
For now there is no egg shortage in the province, but he said an increase in demand is expected in the summer as students come home for vacations.*CPG
