SG leader suspended
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A graduating student of the Negros Oriental State University Guihulngan campus will not be able to attend the baccalaureate today and the graduation on Wednesday, her suspension over an impeachment complaint filed against her.

Razel Dawn Bacay, president of the Student Government NORSU Guihulngan, said the complaint was filed by co-officers for her failure to liquidate the funds of the SG, among others.

She said she was given 10 days to file a counter affidavit but added that she requested for an extension of the deadline because she had a lot of things to do as a graduating student, but this was denied by the Board of Discipline. She was suspended for 35 days, effective March 6.

Bacay said all the expenses of the SG had been accounted for, and it was only that she failed to settle everything on time. She added that her liquidation papers had been submitted to the Office of the President at the main campus in Dumaguete and before the Student Affairs Office in Guihulngan on March 13.

She lamented that, despite her appeal, NORSU president Don Vicente Real affirmed the decision of the Board of Discipline to suspend her for 35 days. She said this is contrary to the Student Government constitution and by-laws, that says that the penalty for such an offense is limited only to removal from public office.

Bacay said she will seek the help of a lawyer and assert her right to attend the commencement exercises. *JG
