Students ask Aquino, CHEd to
replace NORSU president
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

For the first time in the history of the Negros Oriental State University, its students yesterday protested against their president, Don Vicente Real, and some school officials for alleged violation of their rights as students and as individuals.

The students sought the help of President Benigno Aquino III and Commission on Higher Education chair, Patricia Licuanan, to replace Real with one who is decent and competent, and who upholds the students' rights and welfare, since the students are the very reason for the university's existence, they added.

The students assembled at the Freedom Park in front of the NORSU main campus in Dumaguete City, to air their grievances against Real and four others through placards and streamers calling for an investigation into alleged corrupt practices act of several officials.

MGB requires barangay resolution
against mineral processing plant
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region 7 is asking for a barangay council resolution, and a signature campaign by residents of Tambacan in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, expressing their opposition to a mineral processing plant erected in the barangay.

Chief Efren Rombawa of the Negros Oriental Community Environment and Natural Resources Office II, said these are the requirements for the MGB-7 to issue an order as requested by Gov. Roel Degamo for the dismantling of the mineral processing plant.

The processing plant of the Sino-Italy Construction Philippines Inc. was erected in late 2013 after the Tanjay City government and the company inked a memorandum of agreement for a multi-million pesos dredging project at the Tanjay River.
