PNP: No proof yet
of cops link to theft
BY SHIELA GELERA

The Bacolod City Police Office is still gathering concrete evidence against two policemen who are allegedly connected to a carnapping group in Bacolod City.

Supt. Jefferson Descallar, police deputy city director for operations, said that, up to yesterday, the BCPO had not received evidence about the involvement of the two members of the Philippine National Police in the carnapping group.

One of the two carnapping suspects Great Austria, 29, of Brgy. Alijis in Bacolod, the one allegedly disassembling the stolen motorcycles, who was nabbed Wednesday, told the police during interrogation that the two policemen, whose names were not disclosed, ordered stolen motorcycles from him.

Descallar, meanwhile, said that they cannot claim that the motorcycles confiscated from the shop of Austria, who is a mechanic, in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod, were stolen. The policemen brought the 21 motorcycles to Police Station 4 because Austria failed to present documents as proof of ownership, he added.

Owners of stolen motorcycles are being urged to go to the Station 4, identify their units, present official receipts/certificates of registration, and press additional charges against Austria and his friend Jose Angelo Soriano, 24, of Brgy. Mandalagan in Bacolod, who is the one suspected of stealing the motorcycles, the police said.*SGG
