Fire prevention drive on

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella yesterday appealed to barangay officials to work together with the Bureau of Fire Protection, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and volunteer fire brigades to prevent fires at the launching of the Mamamayan Kontra Kalayo program yesterday at the BAYS Center, a press release from City Hall said.

He also urged the barangay heads to undergo basic rescue training, including basic life support not only in the event of fire, but also when faced with other disasters, including flood, earthquake and other calamities, the press release said.

Puentevella also said that the Amity and the Bacolod Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade are regarded as the top volunteer teams in the country, the press release said.

The mayor said he intends to push for sub-fire stations, fire trucks and barangay based Emergency Response Teams in big Bacolod barangays to quickly address calamities, the press release added.*
