More livestock worth P1,065,750 were distributed by the Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary Office to raisers from nine towns and five cities as of this month.
They will replenish those that were killed during the cold spell in January and the devastation of typhoon Yolanda in November last year, Cathyrine Narez, livestock coordinator, said yesterday.
Narez also said that 25 carabaos valued at P34,950 each, were given to raisers from the towns of Murcia, Calatrava, Toboso, La Castellana, San Enrique, Pontevedra, Binalbagan and Hinigaran and in the cities of Kabankalan, Sagay, Talisay, Bago and Cadiz.
Narez said they also distributed nine ready-to-breed pigs valued at P12,000 each and a boar also worth P12,000, to the wellness program center of the 303rd Infantry brigade in Murcia.
Raisers from the towns of La Catellana and Moises Padilla and from Talisay City received two boars each, she also said.
Four more boars will be distributed to raisers from La Carlota City and Pontevedra town next week, Narez added.
Earlier this month, the PVO distributed P1.4 million in ready-to-lay chickens in the province also as replenishment for those
killed during the cold spell and the onslaught of the typhoon.
Narez added that the distribution of the animals is part of the quick response program of Governor Alfredo Maranon, Jr. to help poultry and other livestock raisers recover from their losses to natural calamities.*APN
