The Lopue’s Table Tennis team of Leonito Lopue continued to make waves in local tournaments as mainstays Emy Rose Dael, Ann Gella Borbon, and Mariella Mabaquiao captured the championship in the recent high school girls’ team open event of the Uni-Orient Cup 9th TATAND Inter-Scholastic Table Tennis League held in Manila.
In a press release, LOPTTA said the Marell Lagunday and Hosea Alvarez-mentored LOPTTA girls’ team defeated St. Martin Montessori of Manila, 3-1, in the final to capture the crown.
The team topped their bracket in the elimination round by defeating UST - Manila and Cavite School of Life in straight sets,3-0, before demolishing UE - Manila in the semis,3-0.
Dael was also named most valuable player of the tournament while Lagunday bagged the best coach award.
A total of 131 teams saw action in the March 15-16 tournament organized by the Table Tennis Association for National Development. Participants came from all over the country and competed in 10 categories.*
