Victims of super typhoon Yolanda in Negros Occidental will soon receive financial assistance from the Ireland-based CONCERN Worldwide, an international humanitarian organization.
This was after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental approved yesterday the endorsement of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. who requested its approval and authority for him to sign the funding agreement to be entered into by and between the CONCERN Worldwide and the provincial government, relative to funding assistance to be extended to the typhoon victims.
Of the P25.3 million assistance offered by the international humanitarian organization, P23,742,000 will be earmarked for shelter rehabilitation assistance, while P1,570,800 has been allocated for the rehabilitation of rock walkway in Molocaboc, Sagay City, Board Member Salvador Escalante, who had pushed for the approval of the resolution, said.
The provincial government had earlier given P3,000 financial assistance to more than11,000 Negrense families, whose houses destroyed by the typhoon in November last year.
Two weeks after Yolanda battered the province, representatives of CONCERN Worldwide, accompanied by Marañon on board two Air Force helicopters, inspected the coastlines and island barangays of northern Negros, as far as Bantayan in Cebu, to get an aerial view of the damage.
The SP also passed a resolution thanking the CONCERN Worldwide for the support it extended to typhoon victims in Negros Occidental.
Tearfund, a Christian organization registered in the Philippines with the Securities and Exchange Commission, had earlier told Marañon that they are also constructing 200 new houses for the homeless, repairing 200 damaged houses, and providing livelihood assistance to 400 families, in Cadiz City.*GPB back
