Ceres FC spearheads
bootfest in May

Rallying community support for football in Negros Occidental, Ceres Football Club is tapping local government units and schools in the province to join in the First Ceres Cup 7-a-side competition scheduled on May 17 and 18 in four different venues in the cities of Talisay and Bacolod.

In a letter sent to municipal and city mayors, presidents of football associations, and administrators of colleges and universities, among others, organizing committee vice chairman Nicolas Golez said the two-day football will have 14 categories -- Under-8, Under-9 and Under-10, which are all open to boys, girls or mixed teams, Under-11, Under-12 and Under-13—all in the boy’s category; Under-14 Girls, Under-15 Boys, Under-18 Boys and Under-18 Girls, Under-20 Boys as well as Men’s Open, Ladies’ Open and 38-Above group.

Top’s bowling tilt

Top’s Challenge Cup Open Trio Bowling Tournament will start at 6 tonight at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

In the opening semifinal match, Candles Alimon Steel of Melot Alimon will go up against No.2 seed Bago City squad of Carlos Otay Gonzaga for the right to challenge top seed Sharp I of Irne Diaz in the premiere division.

Alimon Steel advanced to the men’s finals by defeating Davies II of Romel Jover and Edgar Jerez in the quarterfinals, while Bago City beat No.4 seed Manila Bulletin headed by Albert Solidarios to finish fourth in the overall tally.

Farenas faces former Pacquiao foe
for vacant super featherweight title

Former World Professional Boxing Federation featherweight champion Filipino Michael “The Hammerfist” Farenas will fight Mexican pugilist Hector Velazquez for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Featherweight title today at The Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City, a press release from GMA television network said.

The bout, dubbed “Laban Ng Lahi, Michael Farenas vs. Hector Velazquez,” will be aired on GMA Channel 7 tomorrow at 2:45 p.m. after the noontime show, Eat Bulaga, the press release said.
