The proposed construction of two hydro-power projects at the Mambukal Mountain Resort in Murcia town and Bago River, within the jurisdiction of San Carlos City, may help address the anticipated power supply deficit of Negros Occidental in the next several years, if pushed through.
The Good Friends Hydro Resources Corp. recently executed a Development Service Contract with the Department of Energy to develop a run-off river type of hydro resources power system along Bago River in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
In his letter to Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, GFHRC managing director, Ernest Evangelista, said they expect a five megawatt-power capacity to be sourced from the hydro-power project that would augment the much- needed supply of power for the province.
In a letter to Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., the Hydrotec Renewables Inc., also offered it services to the provincial government to install a small hydro power plant at the Mambukal Resort area in Brgy.Minoyan, Murcia.
Hannes Mueller, director of the Hydrotec Renewables Inc., said they can generate at least 1.4 megawatt of power from the run-of-driver hydro power plant.
If the proposed project pushes through, Mueller said the provincial government may save P24 million in electricity consumption for its Mambukal Resort and Capitol offices annually, and may have an additional income from excess power sales, that could be spent on other government projects, or repayment of any debts.
Meanwhile, the GFHRC requested for an endorsement from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for its hydro resources power system in San Carlos City, that has already been endorsed by the City Council, through a resolution on Nov. 13 last year.
The pre-feasibility studies of the proposed hydro power project, had started while Lacson was still mayor of San Carlos City. *GPB back
