An ex-convict was charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and illegal numbers game Tuesday before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.
Joen Villacojer, 26, of Brgy. 1 in Bacolod, was nabbed on Monday for allegedly collecting bets for “jai alai”, at 27 th Street in Purok Barracuda in the barangay. An improvised gun was confiscated from him later, the police said.
Villacojer said he was sleeping on the street when the policemen woke him up and brought him to the Police Station 2 for allegedly threatening his uncles.
Senior Insp. Jovil Sedel, Station 2 chief, said yesterday that Villacojer was arrested when he was caught soliciting bets for the illegal numbers game, “jai alai”, from unidentified bettors, who escaped.
A bundle of betting stubs with written number combinations, three “Polaris” tipsters, P25 in bet money, and a ballpen, were recovered from Villacojer, police records show.
An improvised firearm, loaded with a bullet of .45 caliber pistol, that was tucked in his waistband, was also seized from him when he was frisked, Sedel said.
Villacojer denied both engaging in the illegal numbers game and owning the gun.
However, he admitted having been convicted for “jai alai” charges at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod, recently.
He said he had been released from jail last week only, when his case was dismissed.
Sedel said they have received several complaints from the family of Villacojer that he has displayed aggressiveness recently, and his acts had become disturbing.*SGG
