Leonardia invited
to peace signing

President Benigno Aquino III has invited Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia to witness the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro peace accord between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, in Malacañang today.

“I join the Filipino people in celebrating the hope for a lasting peace in Mindanao,” Leonardia said yesterday, on the eve of the historic signing scheduled at 4 p.m. at the Kalaya-an Gardens of Malacañang. Leonardia is one of the solons invited by Aquino to witness the event, a press release from his office said.

“The peace that we are signing today will not only impact on Mindanao and the rest of the Philippines,” Leonardia said. “It will also reverberate across Asia and the world, where other secessionist movements are watching us take the road to peace,” he added.

He said peace should also lead to prosperity in Mindanao, that will eventually benefit the rest of the country, adding that we have a special affinity with Mindanao residents.

Many Mindanao families trace their roots to our city, making them truly our brothers and sisters, Leonardia added.*
