About 11,800 residents in Negros Occidental, whose houses were destroyed by super-typhoon “Yolanda” in November, will soon receive additional financial assistance of P2,000 each.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said the additional assistance will be taken from the P23,742,000 given by the CONCERN WORLDWIDE, an Irish humanitarian organization, to the provincial government. Another P1,570,800 has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of the rock walkway in Molocaboc, Sagay City, Marañon added.
The P25.3 million funding agreement was signed yesterday between the provincial government, represented by Marañon, and Philip Miller and Roberta Cappiere of CONCERN WORLDWIDE, in the presence of Vice-Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.
The P5,000 in cash was supposed to be given to owners of destroyed houses, but due to limited funds, it was reduced to P3,000, Marañon said.
He said the provincial government is very thankful for the help of the CONCERN WORLDWIDE to the typhoon victims, especially those in northern Negros, that was badly battered by “Yolanda”.
Lacson presented to Miller a copy of the approved SP resolution, expressing their gratefulness for the help it has extended to Negrenses.
Tearfund, a Christian organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the Philippines, had earlier told Marañon that they are also constructing 200 new houses for the homeless, repairing 200 damaged houses, and providing livelihood assistance to 400 families, in Cadiz City.
Marañon, meanwhile, said they have yet to receive assistance from the national government, as of this time.*GPB
