P1B in delinquent tax
on CARP properties

A report from the Office of the Provincial Treasurer yesterday showed P1 billion in delinquent real property tax on the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program covered properties in 19 towns in Negros Occidental.

The component cities of the province were not included in the report.

The report said total payments for real property tax on CARP covered properties was P216,972, 279, while delinquent amounts due totaled P1,047,943,335.moremoremore

Congressional action,
suit urged versus DAR notices of coverage

A Bacolod lawyer yesterday called for congressional action and the filing of a class suit to stop the Department of Agrarian Reform from issuing notices of land coverage without accompanying cash deposits at the Land Bank of the Philippines.

The call was made at a Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program forum at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City by lawyer Roger Reyes where Dr. Raul Fabella, a national scientist and University of the Philippines economics professor, presented his study titled “CARP: Let It Go.”

Fabella said the CARP Extension with Reform (CARPER) should be allowed to die when it effectivity ends in June this year.moremoremore

‘Let’s join Earth Hour’

Officials of the three electric firms in Negros Occidental yesterday urged the public to join the Earth Hour 2014 by switching off their lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today.

Dan Pondevilla, general manager of the Victorias-Manapla-Cadiz Rural Electric Service Cooperative Inc., said they have been asked Local Government Units to cooperate with the initiative.

Pondevilla said they hope to reduce use of power within their service areas by at least 40 percent.moremoremore
