Officials laud
workers on Labor Day
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental and Bacolod officials yesterday paid tribute to the workers of the province on the eve of the celebration of Labor Day today.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said Labor Day is a celebration honoring the workforce, a day to recognise their sacrifices and their social and economic achievements.

“As we mark this important event let us pay tribute to our workers with the resolve that we promote their prosperity and economic advancement,” he said.

Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia said labor is an engine of growth and is, in fact, indispensable in our day-to-day life.

“Our economy can not move without labor and the livelihood of so many depend on labor opportunities. Let us celebrate Labor Day not only because it a tradition, but more so because we believe in the dignity of labor and we recognize how essential it is to society,” Leonardia said.

Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson acknowledged the help and contribution of the workers in the province and the whole country.

“The growth that we have will not be made possible without our workers.  They are our unsung heroes.” Lacson said.

“It is my wish that we will continue to have prosperity with our workers on our side, helping us in growth and development,” he added.*CPG
