Almost 300 Bacoleños trooped to the Commission on Elections Field Office yesterday to register, some of them thinking that the registration of voters was only for one day.
Bacolod Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia had earlier announced that the registration of voters in preparation for the May 9, 2016 elections will start on May 6, 2014 and end Oct. 31, 2015.
The Comelec Bacolod yesterday received 186 applications for new registration, 60 for transfer of registration, 12 for correction of entry and 32 for reactivation, Majarucon-Sia said.
The office of the Commission on Elections will be open every Sunday to Thursday to give time to students and those working, time to register, she said.
She also said they can accommodate 400 to 500 registrants a day as long as their biometric machines are functioning.
An express lane for persons with disability, senior citizen and heavily pregnant women, has been provided.
Majarucon-Sia said voters are required to have mandatory biometric data based on Republic Act 10367.
In Bacolod there are 14,256 active voters who do not have their biometric data, she said.
“By 2016, if you do not have biometric data or did not have your records validated with the Comelec, your name will be deleted from the list of voters, based on R.A. 10367,” Majarucon-Sia said
In Bacolod, about 32,000 voters are to be deactivated for failure to vote twice. They will send out individual notices to them so they will become aware of the status of their registration, she said.
Those whose names have been deactivated can re-apply for reactivation, Majarucon-Sia added.* CGS back
