Marañon, Puentevella positive
over P3-B in hotel investments

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. and Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella expressed optimism Friday on the P3 billion in investments that the Lancaster group of hotels is planning to pour into the city.

The Lancaster group is planning to build a business hub called the Hacienda Negros on a 70-hectare property along the Circumferential Road in Brgy. Pahanocoy and an aquasport facility at a 20-hectare lot near the shorelines of Brgy. Tangub, which will be called the Marina.

Marañon, who met with the officials of Lancaster hotels on Thursday, said, the development and the construction will take three to five years and, hopefully, will push through.

Output of the local manufacturing industry in March 2013 has slowed down in March of this year, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported over the weekend.

In PSA's Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected industries for March 2014, it said volume of production index has decreased by 1.1 percent compared to the same month of 2013.

The VoPi went down in March as five sectors manifested two-digit decrements in manufacturing output.

‘Some southern farmlands
already affected by dry spell’

Several farm lands in Brgy. Quintin Remo in Moises Padilla are already affected by the dry spell, town Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia-Yulo said.

On Friday, Yulo said that the town has no budget for mitigating the effects of the dry spell although it is willing to give financial aid to the affected farmers.

She said the financial aid will depend on the proposals to be submitted by the affected farmers from the barangays.
