USLS bags two championships
in Ceres Cup Football Festival

The winning streak for the University of St. La Salle seniors football team continues with two championships in the Ceres Cup Football Festival at the Ayala North pitch yesterday.

With veteran coach Freddie Lazarito guiding the La Salle-Bacolod booters, its Under 20 team edged University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 4-3, in the shootout to capture the title, while the men’s open squad beat Ceres Team A, 3-1, for the twin titles.

All three goals of the USLS Team A in the men’s open finals against Ceres A were scored by Hanesin Prince Antony, a mainstay of the Ceres-La Salle Football Club that represented the country in the recent AFC President’s Cup Group B Qualifier.

Nietes eager to witness
Manny-Mayweather bout

Boxing fanatics in the world, including two-division world titlist Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, are eager to see Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. slug it out inside the ring to see who is the better fighter between them.

Nietes, who was in Bacolod City Saturday with Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, told reporters that while his heart picks Pacquiao as the winner should the two fighters eventually clash, his mind says it will be Mayweather who will dominate the fight.

The former WBO minimum weight champion and current No. 1 light flyweight fighter in the boxing industry, said that Pacquiao has the speed, strength, and power punches, but Mayweather is more skillful, more agile and can easily read and evaluate his opponent’s move inside the ring.
