as grenade explodes
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A grenade explosion in Isabela, Negros Occidental, yesterday killed four people, including two minors, and caused injuries to four others, the police said.

Senior Inspector Ramil Sarona, Isabela police chief, said the grenade holder, identified as Reynaldo Domingo, alias Idol, was blown to pieces, while barangay tanod Melvin Tanghiyan, and his two children, Mary Michell,11; and Karen,5, also died on the spot.

Guv: Raps politically motivated
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday denied having violated the law when the provincial government purchased property in Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental, for the Negros First Ranch, and constructed  structures there.

He said the charges filed before the Deputy Ombudsman for Visayas against him and two others are politically motivated. They were filed by the same persons and group who have made similar allegations in the past, the governor  added.

“This will not stop us from pursuing development projects for the good of the people of Negros Occidental,” he said.

Pa gets 34-year jail term
for raping two daughters

BY CARLA GOMEZ

A Bacolod resident was sentenced yesterday to 34 years and 8 months imprisonment for raping his two daughters aged 5 and 6 years old in 2004.

Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 43 Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador found the father, whose name is being withheld to protect the identities of his victims, guilty beyond reasonable doubt of “rape through sexual assault” in both cases.

She sentenced him to suffer the penalty of 10 to 17 years and four months imprisonment for each case and to pay the offended parties P120,000 in civil indemnity, moral damages and exemplary damages.moremoremore
