Four killed, 4 injured
as grenade explodes
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A grenade explosion in Isabela, Negros Occidental, yesterday killed four people, including two minors, and caused injuries to four others, the police said.

Senior Inspector Ramil Sarona, Isabela police chief, said the grenade holder, identified as Reynaldo Domingo, alias Idol, was blown to pieces, while barangay tanod Melvin Tanghiyan, and his two children, Mary Michell,11; and Karen,5, also died on the spot.

Police investigations show that Domingo, who was reportedly under the influence of liquor and armed with a fragmentation grenade, went to the house of Tangiyan in Sitio Dumagingding, Brgy. Lima-Lima, Isabela,

Before the incident, Domingo and Tanghiyan had a drinking spree at the house of Kagawad Cocoy Tubes.

Domingo was on his way home, when stones were thrown at him, Sarona said.

Angered by it, Domingo returned to the area, and dropped at the house of Tanghiyan, looking for something to tie the fragmentation grenade, the safety pin of which was already removed, he added.

While Domingo and Tanghiyan were talking, the fragmentation grenade went off, killing both of them, and the two minors, who were sleeping.

Also injured were Tanghiyan’s wife, Marilou, 39, her two sons Kevin, 3, and Melvin Jr., 10, who is now in serious condition, and daughter, Rica,8.

The injured victims are now being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City.* GPB
