Rep. Alfredo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) launched recently a livelihood training program to stir economic activities in the barangays in line with his vision to promote self-reliance and self-sufficiency.
He challenged his constituents to focus on educating themselves, participating in their own development and to be determined to succeed in order to grow and progress, a press release from Benitez’s office said.
This week 57 participants were trained by the Department of Science and Technology and the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST) on making Kroepek, Smoked Fish and Sardines.
The participants were from Barangays 1, 9 and 6A in Victorias City; Barangay Mantaangan and Batea in EB Magalona; Barangays Lantad and Mambulac, Silay City; Barangays Zone 3, 15 and Bubog of Talisay City; and Barangays Iglau-an and Lopez Jaena of Murcia.
The two-day training held in Victorias City was conducted by the NONESCOST pool of trainers led by HRM head Edna Deslate, research director Jocelyn Bantigue and Research and Extension Staff Berna Julian, Jenelyn Villaflor and Joel Dequito, the press release said.
Last week more than 50 residents from Barangay Tanza, EBM; Rizal and E. Lopez of Silay; Zone 5, Concepcion and Dos Hermanas of Talisay; and Damsite and Cansilayan of Murcia joined a seminar-workshop on Candle-making conducted by trainers from the Department of Trade and Industry, the press release said.
Test production for bath soap is currently ongoing in the Barangays of Gahit, EBM , Barangay 1 in Victorias; and Barangay E. Lopez in Silay.
Production testing also continues for detergent powder, dishwashing liquid and fabric conditioner in Barangay Zone 1 in Talisay and Barangays Blumentritt, Alegria, Sta. Cruz, Amayco and Zone 1 in Murcia.
The training for bath soap was facilitated by DOST while the detergent powder, dishwashing liquid and fabric conditioner technology was given by DTI, the press release also said.*
