Dumaguete celebrates
Nat’l Heritage Month

Dumaguete City will celebrate National Heritage Month on the local theme “Summer Beats of the Past”, with activities scheduled May 29-31 at the Quezon Park.

The City Tourism Office said highlights of the celebration are traditional games, such as pig catching, pole climbing and birik-birik fishing; and the search for Gng. Santacruzan.

Schools and universities will participate through folk dance presentations, focusing on the culture and tradition of Negros Oriental.

Other activities are the “Balik-Dulang Pinoy” traditional games, 1 p.m. on May 29, at the Quezon Park; Ginang ng Santacruzan, 7 p.m. May 30, Quezon Park; Birik-Birik Fishing Festival, 6 a.m. May 31, Rizal Boulevard; to be followed by the grand Santacruzan parade, 3 p.m., and the Heritage Concert at the Park, 7 p.m., also at the Quezon Park.

Meanwhile, the Dumaguete Shooters Association hosted a summer shootfest at the DSA Firing Range in Sibulan town, Negros Oriental, recently.

It was a sanctioned match by the Philippine Practical Shooting Association Level I, organized by DSA president Roy Cang with range officers and club members. Around 100 shooters from the Visayan Region participated.

The winners were Adrian Arellano and Neil Tilanas of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, and Alet Virtucio, Dumaguete, lawman champions; and the Magahat of Bayawan, represented by Michael Arada, Edmund Odiao, Howell Sia, Junas Gaco and Santiago Inke as team relay match winners.*RG
