5 Palaro standouts join USLS XI

Freddie Lazarito, coach of the newly-crowned National PRISAA football champion team of the University of St. La Salle, has recruited five high school standouts who will join his multi-titled squad in SY 2014-2015.

Lazarito did his scouting and recruitment at the Palarong Pambansa early month in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, where he said he realized it’s hard to compete with big universities in Metro Manila in recruiting players.

“Sports officials of Big City teams always offer something better than what we from the province do,” he said.

Despite the stiff recruitment competition at the Palaro, Coach Lazarito managed to convince five standouts from three  regions, including Western Visayas, to don the green-and-white Stingers’ colors.

The new St. La Salle players are Charles Ralph Allan Dabao, a graduate of Holy Cross – Dumaguete  and Shane Larry Sarmiento of Cebu’s Abellana National School, who both represented Central Visayas; Northern Mindanao’s Charles Ivan Barberan from Bukidnon National High School; and Western Visayans KJay Gedor of San Joaquin, Iloilo and Patric Joy Amanquiton of  Bago City.

They have great potentials, Lazarito said, and they have shown already their wrorth  to the local crowd when they joined the USLS teams which topped the May 17-18 Ceres Cup Football Festival men’s open and Under-20 categories.* AVDelCarmen
