Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat will be the guest of honor at the opening of the Fresh Start Organic and Natural store and cafe at The District North Point mall in Talisay at 4:30 p.m. today, a press release from the firm said.

Puyat is co-chairperson of the National Organic Agriculture Board.

Before the opening program, the 18 organic farmers and producers who are partners of Fresh Start Organic and Natural, will showcase their produce in a mini-trade fair that will open at 10 a.m. at the Corte Area, which is adjacent to the Fresh Start store in the al fresco area.

"We want to highlight our partnership with organic farmers and producers as we promote fair trade and transparency," Ramon 'Chinchin' Uy Jr., co-owner and founder of Fresh Start, said.

A Cooking Exhibit of organic cuisines by Chef Richard Ynayan and Chef Guido Nijssen will start at 3 p.m. and  will showcase Fresh Start's menu of fresh organic, natural, local, wholesome ingredients, the press release said.

The food tasting of the best organic cuisines will start at 5:30 p.m.in added.

Store owner Nikki Marañon said their stores are filled with only the best of Negros’ organic. We sell not only organic and natural products for retail, but we also serve fresh healthy menus made from organic, natural, local wholesome, and real ingredients.

This means having a distinct style in cooking simple traditional menus, and not using artificial flavorings, colorings and preservatives in our ingredients,” she said.

Fresh Start Organic and Natural is a Negros-based producer of organic products.

It is known for its wide selection of certified organic products including salad greens, fruits and vegetables, culinary herbs, free-range chicken and eggs, red brown, white, and black rice varieties, natural sweeteners like muscovado and coco sugar, and shade-grown coffee,  the press release said.

This year marks the 9th year of Fresh Start as a social enterprise, as it continues to bring in more innovations in producing quality organic food while helping to preserve the environment, Uy added, the press release added.*
