The Department of Labor and Employment Region 6 will lead this year’s Labor Month celebration with another food festival with the theme “Fiesta Sa Mayo Para Sa Mga Obreros, Year 3,” tomorrow.
The DOLE, with the Iloilo Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants Association Inc. and ABS-CBN, will hold the food fest at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol car park area from 5 p.m. tomorrow to 1 a.m. Sunday.
It will be highlighted with the awarding of certificates of appreciation to participating local companies, overseas recruitment agencies, and partner-organizations and event sponsors who contributed to the success of the celebration, a press release from the DOLE said.
Three local bands, Ritmo Tambores, Remix and ATC were invited to perform and entertain the guests.
“It is going to be a grand and very entertaining night for everyone who will participate in the food fest,” DOLE 6 Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom said in the press release.
He also said that this event is dedicated to all the Filipino workers in recognition of their great contribution to nation-building.
The closing night called Fiesta Sa Mayo Para Sa Mga Obrerosis one of the major activities of the Labor Month celebration which the Department has been initiating to honor the workers.
Major activities held in the month-long celebration were the job and livelihood fairs in the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, SM City Bacolod and SM City Iloilo on May 1, career and employment coaching activities, and seminars on occupational safety and health.
Forums for workers and employers groups, tree planting activity on May 10 as contribution to the greening program of the government, and the conduct of recreational activities for the benefit of child workers, such as Fun Run for A Cause with a theme “Takbo Tulong Sa Manggagawang Bata” were also held, the press release said.*
