Join June 12 rites,
vice mayor urges

Bacolod Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya yesterday urged all the Bacoleños to join the 116th Independence Day celebration on June 12 with the theme “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago”, a press release from his office said.

Gasataya said that in line with the celebration, that will be from May 28 to June 12, all government offices, schools, barangays, business establishments, non-government and private and peoples organizations are required to display the Philippine flag in their premises to raise public awareness on the importance of the commemoration.

The city administration has readied a P1 million budget for the occasion, he said.

Senators Cynthia Villar and Allan Cayetano have been invited to the occasion as honorary guests but have not yet confirmed their acceptance, the press release said.

Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. is this year’s over-all Independence Day chairperson, it said.

As in previous years the program includes a parade with various floats to be participated in by government agencies headed by city public officials, public and private schools, barangay officials, veterans and senior citizens, private and non-government organizations, business groups, civic organizations, among others, the press release said.

A wreath-laying ceremony at the public plaza will also be held at 6:30 a.m. to be followed by a parade at 1 p.m. from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon to the Bacolod Public Plaza.

About 150 flags will be hanged on street lamp posts from the boundary of Talisay and Bacolod City up to the Public Plaza, the press release added.*
