Diskwento Caravan kicks off

Seventeen firms joined the “Diskwento Caravan” of the Department of Trade and Industry in Negros Occidental that started yesterday in front of the Bacolod City Hall.

Among thefirms are the Agricultural Producers Cooperative, Bahamas meat shop, Codcod Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Everkeen Marketing, FA Nepan, FARM Inc., Green Harvest Food Inc., Island Merchants Inc. and K5 Distribution Inc.

Also joining are the Macro Distribution Inc., Masagana Distribution Inc., NEFEDACO, Negros Organic Rice Industry Association, St. Mark Distributor, Unilab, Victorias Foods Inc. and the National Book store that offers school supplies at discounted prices.

Reginald Hudierrez, DTI development specialist said the goods being sold at the caravan cost less than those in the  stores.

Hudierrez said they expect a higher profit from this year's event compared than to that of last year because the venue now is more accessible.

Last year, the DTI held the caravan at the Bacolod Arts Youth and Sports center but the goods then did not enjoy brisk sales.

The Diskwento Caravan is being conducted by the DTI in partnership with manufacturers and/ distributors as an act of public service as most of these firms do not make money during the initiative.

Hudierrez said the Diskwento caravan will end at 6 p.m. today.*APN
