ICT summer camp
held for teachers

The Province of Negros Occidental and the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology, held the first Educator's ICT Summer Camp yesterday in Bacolod City.

The activity aims to better equip the teachers with the developments and trends in ICT education and to ensure quality manpower for jobs of the future.

Bacolod Councilor and BNEFIT executive director Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said yesterday that the goal of the event, “iTeach 2014”, is to expose teachers and human resource trainers to the latest trends in ICT in the field of education, particularly under three general themes – content, skills and concepts.

Job-ready graduates translate to a more dynamic national and local economy. “The digital age impacted not only our day-to-day existence but likewise our methods and sources of information and learning,” Batapa-Sigue said.

Frederick Amores, National Computer Center Visayas Group head, said “We need to embrace technology today because almost everything we do now uses technology. It is very important that we embrace technology because to compete globally as well, we need to have a level of savyness in terms of technology. ”

Eloisa Tinio, Philippine Computer Society vice president, said that in order to make teachers competitive, they have to be made aware of what is happening in this world.

She said one thing that the teachers have to realize is their multiplier effect. When they teach, they are not just teaching all their students in their classroom, but they are also teaching all their parents and relatives and all the next generations to come, she said.*CGS
