BTTHS Thunderbolts win
in Dumaguete tournament

Visiting Bacolod Tay Tung High School junior cagers displayed their advanced skills against St. Paul's University of Dumaguete and blew away the host team, 72-38, in their second game at the Cebu Elite Basketball League in Dumaguete City.

The Thunderbolts got 17 points each from Miggy Corteza and Errol Pastor after jump-starting to a 14-8 lead in the first quarter and taking at 31-20 lead at halftime.

St. Paul's tried to bounce back in the third quarter but they were easily subdued by the Tay Tung cagers as they remain dominant and closed the third quarter after at 46-28. A 26-10 spurt in the fourth gave BTTHS its biggest win.

Prime and Coca Cola will slug it out at 2 p.m., while MF Computer Solution and SSC-1 will clash in the 3:30 p.m. match-up of the Pueblo Rosario Athletic Club Summer Basketball League at Eroreco Subdivision in Bacolod City, a press release from the organizers said.

Also set for a battle royale are host Stallions Alumni against CHS at 5 p.m.., while Body Extreme Gym is up against a veteran-laden Sharp-Basketball Unified Sports Group Huskies squad at 6:30 p.m.

Huskies adviser Bing Soyao expects the Huskies to advance to the next round with its only defeat coming from a 93-96 loss to Stallions Alumni, the press release said

Birthday Boy

Among the nearly 200 Negros Occidental athletes who received cash incentives for winning medals in the Palarong Pambansa was Jose Jerry Belibestre, an incoming senior at Romanito Maravilla National High School in Barangay Felisa, Bacolod City.

The cash incentives were given Thursday and Jose Jerry had another reason to be happy that day: it was his 16 th birthday. “I'll spend my money for my school needs,” he said.

His birthday wish? “Win more gold medals,” he quickly said, adding that he has forthcoming competition in Parañaque and Singapore.
