Monico joining mayors
summit in Singapore

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella will leave for Singapore today as one of the country's representatives to the 5 th Annual World Cities Summit Mayors Forum on June 1 to 4, and has designated Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya as acting Mayor until he returns, a press release from the city said.

The forum was organized by Singapore's Center for Liveable Cities and Urban Redevelopment Authority.

Puentevella said he will also present a position paper on the city's water management and sustainability during the Water Leaders Summit, one of the highlights of the Forum, the press release said.

The forum, also one of the key events of the World Cities Summit, will core on the theme, “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Common Challenges, Shares Solutions”, the press release said.

This year, the forum will focus on subjects on Safe and Liveable Cities, Good Urban Governance, Stakeholder Engagements, Resilient Cities and Innovative Urban Solutions for Liveable and Future-Ready Cities.

On the recent Sangguniang Panlugsod committee chairmanship reorganization, Puentevella said that as far as legislation is concerned, he sees no problem with the councilors. Their line of communication has always been open since he assumed as Mayor and he hopes this will continue, he claimed.

Members of the new majority in the SP allied with Puentevella now head several major SP committees, with his son, Councilor Claudio Puentevella, getting the plum Committee on Finance and Appropriations.

Other members of the new majority are Councilors Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, El Cid Familiaran, Archie Baribar, Wilson Gamboa Jr., Sonya Verdeflor, Ana Marie Palermo, and Noli Villarosa, while the minority include Councilors Roberto Rojas, Em Ang, Caesar Distrito, and Carlos Jose Lopez, who are allied with former Mayor and now Bacolod Rep.
