Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella yesterday said he will order all internet and online gaming centers operating near schools in Bacolod City to stop their operation during school hours.
This is to regulate hours spent by minors in internet cafes as there had been several reports that some students skip classes to engage in internet and online gamings, he said.
Meanwhile, Puentevella said the Bacolod City government will construct 10 classrooms for 10 public elementary and high school institutions in Bacolod City.
The budget will be taken from the Special Education Fund of the city, he said.
Puentevella also said that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, together with the Bacolod Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Negros-based Filipino-Chinese communities will donate classrooms after the completion of the first batch, that will commence “immediately”.
“We must cultivate in our students (the idea) that the community is behind in their pursuit of quality education,” Puentevella said.
He said one of his priorities after the construction of classrooms is to purchase more books and other educational materials which will also be distributed to the city's different schools.
He said the beneficiaries of the 10 classrooms will be are Ramonito Maravilla National High School, Luis Hervias National High School, J.R. Torres Elementary School, Estefania Elementary School, E.J. Garcia Elementary School, Fr. Gratian Murray Integrated School, Vista Alegre-Granada Relocation Elementary School, AL Jayme Elementary School, Don Luis Puentebella Elementary School and RA Medel Sr. Elementary School.*CGS
