Thirty college freshmen students in Negros Oriental will compete in the 23rd Philippine Statistics Quiz, 2 p.m. on November 10 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas office in Dumaguete City.
Provincial Statistics Officer Ariel Fortuito said the competition is for students enrolled in the second semester of school year 2014-2015 in 10 colleges and universities in Negros Oriental.
The PSQ is an annual quiz competition designed to test freshmen college students’ knowledge on statistics, and promote appreciation of the importance and value of science, particularly statistics in all development-planning activities, a government press release said.
The participating schools are Silliman University, Foundation University, St. Paul University, Negros Oriental State University, COSCA, Maxino College, Maritime College, Science Technology Institute, and AMA.
Each school can send three participants and three coaches, that it has officially endorsed. The top three winners will represent the province in the regional elimination on Nov. 14, and the winner will represent Central Visayas in the National PSQ contest on December 9 at the Commission on Higher Education office in Quezon City, the press release said.
The top five winners in the PSQ national finals will receive trophies and cash prizes, and the national finalists medals and certificates of recognition.*RG
