Ex-senator discharged from hospital
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Climate Change Commissioner Heherson Alvarez and his aide, who figured in an accident in Murcia town in Negros Occidental Tuesday, were discharged from the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City  yesterday afternoon.

Alvarez, 75, and Bernadette Felix, 50, were discharged at about 4:30 p.m., Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Andres Untal confirmed.

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., who visited Alvarez at the hospital yesterday morning, said he appeared to be in good condition and was already talking about climate change and its dangers.

Alvarez and Felix were held at the  hospital for observation and tests after the accident.

Their X-rays were clear but Alvarez underwent an ultrasound yesterday morning. The doctors were making sure there are no internal problems, Untal said.

Alvarez, Felix, and Raffy Taguihanon, 35, were rushed to the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City after their vehicle rammed into the side of a parked truck in Purok Tangke, Barangay Pandanon Silos, Murcia  3:15 p.m. Tuesday, the police said.

Alvarez, who spoke at an Interfaith Conference on Climate Change in Talisay City Tuesday morning, was headed for San Carlos City to visit the solar fields there.

John Ci-0, 38, the driver of the Mitsubishi Montero Sports vehicle owned by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources that  Alvarez was riding, tried to overtake a motorcycle and hit the front wheel and the side of a parked truck on the left lane of the road, SPO1 Danilo Pastro of the Murcia police, said.

The driver was unharmed but his companion in the front seat, Taguihanon, sustained minor bruises.

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who was headed for Bacolod from San Carlos, passed the area shortly after the accident and stopped to help when he saw the wrecked Montero in the middle of the road.

Felix said she had a bump in the back of her head and was complaining about having difficulty breathing, while Alvarez who did not have visible wounds, was worried that he could be suffering from internal bleeding, Lacson said.*CPG
