Dulay banners BGC campaign;
trails Gao, Zaragosa in opener

Negrense Chepe Dulay fired an opening round of 72 yesterday to stay two shots behind early leader Wei Wei Gao of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club and Rupert Zaragosa of Canlubang Golf and Country Club in the men's division of the 2014 Visayas Regional Amateur & Alex Montelibano Memorial Golf Tournament at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club in Binitin, Murcia yesterday.

A par and a bogey in the first two holes had Dulay falling behind in the first two holes and finished with a 37 in the front nine as Zaragoza carded successive in the first three holes for an early lead with 34 while Gao registered 35.

Dulay was more confident in the back nine with a only bogey in 15th hole to blot his consistent performance as he stayed within striking distance of Gao and Zaragoza, who had two bogeys each, as both finished the round with an identical 70 to share the overall lead.

Trailing the young golfers at No. 4 is Cangolf's Tommy Manotoc, who registered a 73, while JP De Claro, Weiyu Gao, and Kristoffer Arevalo posted a 77 each.

Dulay's teammate Nick Aleluya shared the fifth spot with Cangolf's Jolo Magcalayo with 78, while two other BGC campaigners, Nick Holt and Rowel Masabio had an 80 and 81, respectively.

Organized by the National Golf Association of the Philippines, the tournament features a 72-hole men's Championship Division, 54-holes stroke play for the women's mid-amateur, and senior's championship division, and 36-holes for the ALM Memorial Tournament.*
