35 women

Thirty-five women completed their training on fruit and vegetable processing conducted by the Talisay City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office with assistance from the Departmnet of Trade and Industry yesterday.

The participants came from barangays of the city and was funded by the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting, city cooperative officer, Rosalinda Tuvilla said, adding that the group was identified by the Local Poverty Reduction Action Team, a civil society group.

Tuvilla said the training covered commercial vegetable pickling, pineappla jam making, fruit cocktail making and fruit and vegetable preserving. After the training scheduled is a seminar on entrepreneurship and marketing of products before forming a cooperative for mass production, she added.

 Before their training ended, Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan made a surprise visit and inspection of their finished product. Saratan said he is happy and grateful to the present administration for giving opportunities to people from the lower level of the society.

Saratan also said that after the training he will give them opportunities to showcase their products and give them exposure and promotions in the market. He also thanked the administration of the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College for its support and kindness in lending  and  sharing their facilities and skills to the training.*MNM
