Montelibano eyes bigger golf
tournament next year

Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano thanked everyone for the success of the 2014 Visayas Regional Amateur and 1st Alex Montelibano Memorial Tournament, that ended yesterday.

At the Awards Night, held at Planta Hotel in Bacolod City, last night, Montelibano called the tournament a success.

“We have now the funds to be used on programs for the grassroots of junior golf in Negros Occidental,” he said.

He also said there were talented kids chosen to be brought to Manila to undergo trainings.

He said they are eyeing a second, bigger tournament next year, where about 200 golfers from Mindanao and other provinces, will be invited to participate.

Meanwhile, Philippines Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia said the lady golfers are always contenders every time they join competitions.

Garcia said the tournament showed that the Philippines is not lacking in talent, and support to the junior golfers should be continued.*SGG
