Three injured as
wake turns bloody
BY SHIELA GELERA

A funeral vigil in Purok Paghida-et, Barangay Tangub in Bacolod City turned tragic when three bystanders were injured when explosives went off and a gun was fired at about 12:50 a.m. yesterday.

Injured were Alfonso Benjamin, 30, Randy Elbanbuena, 36, and Danilo Duria, 64, all of Barangay Tangub. They were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, the police said.

Investigation showed that Benjamin, Elbanbuena and Duria were attending the vigil when the suspects identified as Efren Buenaflor, 18, Morin Capunong, 22, and Pinrod Calma, 22, also of Barangay Tangub, threw two improvised explosives, and one of them fired his gun, Inspector Elmer Bonilla, Station 8 commander, said.

Buenaflor, Capunong and Calma were arrested by the police in a follow-up operation, Bonilla said.

He said the incident was triggered by a conflict between the group of the suspects, and those who were at the vigil, whose names were not disclosed.

Two improvised plastic pillboxes and a cartridge of 12-gauge shotgun were recovered from the crime scene, Bonilla said.

Charges for frustrated murder are being readied against Buenaflor, Capunong and Calma, Bonilla also said.

Meanwhile, a man was stabbed and injured by two men as he was walking in Purok Totong, Barangay Felisa in Bacolod City, at about 12 a.m. Saturday.

Henry Cañete, 22, of Barangay Felisa, sustained a stab wound on his chest and was brought to the CLMMRH, the police said.

The Police Station 10 operatives are still conducting follow-up operations on the suspects.*SGG
