The Dumaguete City Agriculture Office will hold a three-day Farm Congress on November 17-19 at the Quezon Park in Dumaguete City, on the theme “Improving economic growth through organic-driven agriculture”.
The congress will showcase the harvested organic products of Dumaguete farmers. Mayor Manuel Sagarbaria, who will be the keynote speaker, will declare the farm congress open. The activity is part of Sagarbarria’s goal to make Dumaguete an organic city, a press release from the city said.
The program will start with a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, 8 a.m. Monday, to be followed by a thanksgiving mass, 9 a.m., and the opening program, 10 a.m., where City Administrator William Ablong will give the opening remarks, the press release also said.
Alejandro Rafal of APCO-PATCO, Provincial Agriculturist Gregorio Paltinca, and Efren dela Cruz of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council in Region 7 are expected to attend the congress.
There will be an organic agriculture forum, 1:30 p.m., a native chicken cooking contest, RIC modern dance contest, 4-H dance sport, and RIC/DIA/FA ballroom, all on Monday.
On the second day, an FA demo contest on best insect attractant, RIC cooking contest, RIC handicraft-making contest, and fish lumpia competition will start at 8 a.m., and at 10 a.m., the 4-H poster-making contest and a game load carrying, or paligid, will be held. Other events are cooking and handicraft-making contest, piglet catching game, extemporaneous speaking, and 4-H minus-one singing contest.
On the last day of the congress, a tilapia fry counting/tilapia fish catching contest, agri-quiz and sack race will be held. The closing and awarding ceremony will be attended by Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling Sr., Sangguniang Panlungsod councilor Franklin Esmeña Jr., and Ablong, the press release added.*RG
