The Government Service Insurance System in Negros Oriental identified two of its pensioners as the oldest in the province, and still enjoying their pension at 105 years old each.

The first retiree to reach 105 on June 21, 2014 is Demetria Villaflores Aldecoa of Dumaguete City, and Socorro Valencia, from Guihulngan City, who will turn 105 on Saturday.

Aldecoa was born in 1909 in Calle P. Tavera Street in Bais City, from parents Perpetuo and Eduarda Villaflores. GSIS branch manager, Mercedes Enriquez, learned of the whereabouts of Aldecoa Sunday, and on Monday, she brought presents to Aldecoa at her residence in Capitol Area, Barangay Daro in Dumaguete.

Aldecoa said she tries to eat green leafy vegetables and fruits every day. She said she was happy to be at her age and thanked the GSIS for visiting and honoring her. Aldecoa retired as teacher after 43 years in 1972, and started receiving a pension in 1977, at P254.63 for 37 years. Starting January 2014, her pension was increased to P5,054.42.

Enriquez said she was mulling to request local government units to recognize and give incentives to senior citizens who reach their 100 years*JG
