DA holding Farm Congress

The Dumaguete City Agriculture Office will hold a three-day Farm Congress on November 17-19 at the Quezon Park in Dumaguete City, on the theme “Improving economic growth through organic-driven agriculture”.

The congress will showcase the harvested organic products of Dumaguete farmers. Mayor Manuel Sagarbaria, who will be the keynote speaker, will declare the farm congress open. The activity is part of Sagarbarria’s goal to make Dumaguete an organic city, a press release from the city said.

The program will start with a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, 8 a.m. Monday, to be followed by a thanksgiving mass, 9 a.m., and the opening program, 10 a.m., where City Administrator William Ablong will give the opening remarks, the press release also said.

GSIS honors two 105
years old pensioners

The Government Service Insurance System in Negros Oriental identified two of its pensioners as the oldest in the province, and still enjoying their pension at 105 years old each.

The first retiree to reach 105 on June 21, 2014 is Demetria Villaflores Aldecoa of Dumaguete City, and Socorro Valencia, from Guihulngan City, who will turn 105 on Saturday.

Aldecoa was born in 1909 in Calle P. Tavera Street in Bais City, from parents Perpetuo and Eduarda Villaflores. GSIS branch manager, Mercedes Enriquez, learned of the whereabouts of Aldecoa Sunday, and on Monday, she brought presents to Aldecoa at her residence in Capitol Area, Barangay Daro in Dumaguete.
