7 Ceres FC mainstays tap to join
Azkals roster in AFC Suzuki Cup

Seven mainstays from the newly-crowned United Football League FA League Cup champion Ceres-La Salle FC are included in the 35-man lineup of the Philippine Azkals for the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup 2014 from November 22 to December 20 in Singapore and Vietnam, a press release from the ball club said.

Suiting up for the national team are Juan Luis Guirado, Jason Sabio, Jeffrey Christiaens, Manny Ott, Carli de Murga, Paul Mulders, Patrick Reichelt, and Nathaniel Burkey.

De Murga’s availability for the national team, however, is in question after the Fil-Spanish veteran suffered a knee injury during the Ceres FC-Global championship face-off in the FA League Cup.

Coming off a big win in the UFL, the Ceres standouts shift focus to national duty with the Azkals hoping to bring the same intensity to the team, and lead the squad to the tournament finals, the press release said. The Azkals have attracted attention in the international football scene after advancing into the Suzuki Cup semifinals twice in 2010 and 2012.

Also in the roster is Azkals’ former top keeper, Fil-British Neil Etheridge, who recently signed up with the Oldham Athletic after he failed to renew his contract with Fulham in the English Premier League.

Included in the lineup is midfielder Jason de Jong, who had earlier announced a vacation from the national duty to be with his family in Denmark.

Completing the 35-man roster of coach Thomas Dooley are ace custodian Roland Muller, skipper Rob Gier, Anton del Rosario, Younghusband siblings James and Phil, Misagh Bahadoran, Daisuke Sato, Amani Aguinaldo, Emelio Caligdong, Satoshi Otomo, Greatwich brothers Chris and Simon, Jerry Lucena, OJ Porteria, Martin Steuble, Simone Rota, Mark Hartmann, Curt Dizon, Paolo Bugas, Mike Ott – Manny’s younger brother; Alvardo Silva, Kenshiro Daniels, Dennis Villanueva, and keepers Patrick Deyto and Tomas Trigo.

Helping Dooley are German assistant coach Sebastian Stache and Mexican goalkeeper coach Jorge Kuriyama while team manager is Dan Palami.

The Philippines is bracketed with Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar in Group A.*
