Donnie to fight in Macau

Undisputed World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes and IBF Inter-continental Jr. featherweight Albert "Prince" Pagara will both fight on Feb. 14 next year in Macau after both posting contrasting wins Saturday night in Cebu City.

"I've talked already with Bob Arum for the Macau fight," said ALA Promotions president and chief executive Michael Aldeguer. Their opponents' names, however, were still not revealed.

Nietes continued his winning form by stopping Mexican challenger Carlos "Chapito" Velarde to retain his title Saturday night in the Pinoy Pride 28: History in the Making" at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino.

Nietes (34W-1L-4D-20KOs) is now also on the verge of rewriting the history as the longest reigning Filipino world boxing champion in seven years, one month and 15 days on Jan. 1, 2015 and replacing the late Gabriel "Flash" Elorde.

Nietes showed dominance with his left-right combinations against Velarde, who also suffered a deep cut on his left eyelid later in the opening round.

The cut  worsened after another accidental head butt in the 7th round forcing Velarde's corner to stop the fight before the start of the 8th round.

Pagara (22W, 15KOs, OL,OD) remained undefeated by scoring a convincing unanimous decision against veteran Mexican Raul Hirales (22W, 11 KOs, 4 L, 1 draw) of Mexico.Pagara knocked down Hirales in the third round and inflicted a cut on his eye due to his countless left--right combinations.

Current WBO Inter-continental flyweight champion Milan "El Metodico" Melindo (33 wins, 12 KOs, 1 loss) also beat Saul "Baby" Juarez of Mexico by a unanimous decision in their IBF jr. flyweight eliminator.

But stable mate and former WBO world minimum weight champion Merlito "Tiger" Sabillo suffered a shocking loss from the hands of Indonesian Faris Nenggco via a 4th round technical knockout.

Sabillo got a deep cut on his eyelid forcing ring physician Rene Bonsobre to stop the fight.

In other bouts, AJ "Bazooka" Banal won by a unanimous decision over Thai Maxsaisai Sithsaithong while hot prospect Mark Magsayo stopped Korean Jung Moon-sun 1:56 into the second round for his seventh knockout in nine straight wins.

Meanwhile, Genesis 'Azukal' Servania (R) received the WBO Inter-Continental Fighter of the Year award from WBO Vice-President for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo Jr. during the Pinoy Pride 28.

The undefeated Servania (25-0-0, 11KO) who last fought in Dubai in September against Jose Cabrera of Mexico is set to fight for the WBO Interim superbantam title on Jan. 31 in Bacolod City against an undetermined opponent.*PNA
