Nietes ready for higher division

After conquering both the World Boxing Organization minimumweight and the junior flyweight divisions and staying undefeated for seven years, Negrense champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes said he is ready to move up to a higher weight division and improve his craft.

But the final decision, he said, will be made by his manager, the ALA Promotions represented by its CEO and president, Michael Aldeguer.

Nietes said ALA Promotions knows what is best for his career and he entrusts to the management all the decision-making.

Donnie to fight in Macau

Undisputed World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes and IBF Inter-continental Jr. featherweight Albert "Prince" Pagara will both fight on Feb. 14 next year in Macau after both posting contrasting wins Saturday night in Cebu City.

"I've talked already with Bob Arum for the Macau fight," said ALA Promotions president and chief executive Michael Aldeguer. Their opponents' names, however, were still not revealed.

Nietes continued his winning form by stopping Mexican challenger Carlos "Chapito" Velarde to retain his title Saturday night in the Pinoy Pride 28: History in the Making" at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino.
